Trans Urethral Needle Ablation

Post a new topicby Guest on Fri Sep 16, 2005 3:09 pm

i had this procedure 8 weeks ago. Post operatively it's been difficult with many symtoms. Although there has been gradual improvement, I have limitations. For example, I am still wearing diapers. It has been depressing and although I did a lot of research on this procedure and the MD had done many of them, I was disappointed. The MD says I had a "high bladder" which I understand to mean the prostate is growing into the bladder neck and the radio frequency waves can irritate the blader, etc.
Medial and lateral englargement is the usual case, but "high bladder" is more difficult altough this MD was confident he could handle it. It is clear that improvement , if any, will take some time in my case. As of now I don't believe I could recommend it, especially if a person had a prostate with my peculiarities.

Most people do not see the start of improvement for 6 to 8 weeks with total improvement seen at 3 months. In my hands this procedure works best in smaller prostates uo to 60 grams

UroDoc,
If you had this BPH problem, and you had a choice, would you go with TUNA or PVP Green Light Laser?
Thanks

I had this procedure 5 and 1/2 weeks ago. I had severe BPH, although I could empty my bladder with multiple tries. I'm 58 year old. Couldn't urinate at all for 2 and 1/2 weeks after procedure. Now, I have to self cath(eter) 6 times a day. I can urinate 50 to 120cc's without catheter now but can't empty bladder without catheter. Little communication from doctor so I con't know whether I should be trying to pee more on my own or not.

Doctor says that I should get better over next 7 weeks. He hasn't given me any hint as to why I'm worse than before operation except to say "stuff happens." Ended up in emergency room a week after operation because Doctor didn't tell me that I might not be able to pee after taking out Foley catheter. Doctor did give me antibiotics and flo max to take. That has helped some.

I'm been reading the web a lot and I've seen things from Kegel for men to electrical stimulation for bladder muscles that may or may not be relevant.

I read on Hopkins web page that full benefits may not be achieved for 3 to 6 months. Hope this is true. I'm usually a slow healer also. I'm starting to wonder if something other than just my prostate was problematic.
